Alfred Hitchcock’s only child, daughter Patricia, has died at the age of 93.

She died on Monday, August 9, 2021 at her home in Thousand Oaks, California.

No cause of death has been announced.

Patricia was born in London in 1928, but her parents moved to California in 1939.

She always wanted to be an actress so it was only natural that she would act in some of her father’s most legendary films.

Here are 3 things to know about Patricia Hitchcock.

1. Best Known For Her Role In Psycho

She is best known for her role in the 1960 classic Psycho.

Patricia played Janet Leigh’s coworker and offered her a tranquilizer in that memorable scene.

However, this is the third of her father’s movies that Patricia acted in.

She was in the 1950 film Stage Fright and the 1951 movie Strangers on a Train.

Patricia also appeared in the Alfred Hitchcock Presents television series from 1955-1960.

2. Credited Her Mother For Dad’s Career

Patricia was never shy about giving her mother Alma ample credit for her father’s success.

In the 1997 documentary entitled The Making of ‘Psycho, Patricia said:

“My mother was the one who really was in on everything from the very beginning. When he would find a story that he was anxious to do, he would have her read it. If she didn’t think it would make a picture, he didn’t touch it. Then she would be the first one to read the treatment and the screenplay, and she was even in on a lot of the casting, too.”

In 2003, she co-wrote a biography about her mother called: Alma Hitchcock: The Woman Behind The Man.

3. Stayed Out Of The Public Eye To Raise Her Family

Patricia largely retreated from doing acting projects in the 1970s to raise her family.

She did appear in some movies of the week including: Skateboard, Six Characters in Search of an Author, and Ladies of the Corridor.

Patricia married Joseph O’Connell Jr. in 1952, and the couple had three daughters: Mary Alma Stone born in 1953, Teresa “Tere” Carrubba born in 1954, and Kathleen “Katie” Fiala born in 1959.

O’Connell died in 1994.

Rest in peace Patricia Hitchcock O’Connell.
